Texas electricity service identifier
ESID / ESIID lookup
Find the electric service ID tied to a Texas service address.
What is an ESID / ESIID?
An ESID (Electric Service Identifier) — also written ESIID or ESI ID — is a 17-digit number that ERCOT assigns to every electricity meter in the Texas deregulated market. It uniquely identifies the physical service point at your address, independent of which provider is supplying it.
Think of it like a VIN for your meter. The number never changes when you switch providers — only the account attached to it does.
Where to find your ESID on your electricity bill
Look on the first page of your bill under your account information block. It is usually labeled "ESI ID," "ESIID," or "Service Identifier." It is 17 digits, typically starting with 10.
If you have trouble reading your bill, our Electricity Facts Label guide explains all the key numbers on a Texas electricity bill, including where service identifiers appear.
Why do you need your ESID?
- Switching electricity providers — the new REP needs your ESID to initiate the switch
- Signing up for a new electricity plan at a new address
- Verifying that a service address is active and metered
- Resolving billing disputes or confirming you have the correct account
Found your ESID? Compare electricity plans for your address. Upload your bill and Power My Casa will show you every plan available at your meter — ranked by your actual cost.

Frequently asked questions
What is an ESID in Texas?+
An ESID (Electric Service Identifier) is a unique 17-digit number assigned by ERCOT to every electricity meter in the Texas deregulated market. It identifies the physical service location. Every active electricity address in the state has exactly one ESID.
Is ESID the same as ESIID?+
Yes. ESID and ESIID refer to the same number. "ESIID" (Electric Service Identifier ID) is ERCOT's official term, while "ESID" is the common shorthand. Some providers also write it as "ESI ID" with a space. All three mean the same 17-digit number.
Where is my ESID on my electricity bill?+
It appears on the first page of your bill, usually in the account information section near your service address. It is labeled "ESI ID," "ESIID," or "Service Identifier" and is 17 digits, typically starting with 10.
Why do I need my ESID to switch electricity providers?+
When you switch to a new retail electric provider (REP) in Texas, the new company submits a switch request to ERCOT using your ESID. Without it, the system cannot locate the specific meter at your address. You can find your ESID on your current bill or use this lookup tool.
How many digits is a Texas ESID?+
A Texas ESID is always 17 digits. Most start with "10" followed by 15 more digits. If the number you found has fewer than 17 digits, check for leading zeros — some providers omit them in their display.
What does the TDU column mean in the lookup results?+
TDU stands for Transmission and Distribution Utility — the company that physically owns and maintains the power lines and meters at your address. The four TDUs in Texas are Oncor (Dallas-Fort Worth area), CenterPoint Energy (Houston area), AEP Texas (South/West Texas including Rio Grande Valley), and TNMP (parts of Panhandle and Houston). Your TDU is separate from your retail electric provider (REP) and does not change when you switch plans.
